North Korean Slaves is the second co-production between Singapore’s Channel NewsAsia and the UK’s Channel 4.
Today more than 50,000 North Korean men and women are being used like slaves in 40 countries. Most of their salary is stolen from them to keep the Supreme Leader in power. North Korea and the countries that play host to their workers have been able to keep this modern-day slavery a secret until now.
The documentary was first investigated for Channel NewsAsia which aired under its Undercover Asia strand on 22nd March 2016. It then focused on North Korean slaves across Europe specifically, which was broadcasted on Channel 4 under its Dispatches strand as Brexit: Who’ll Do Your Job Now? on 8th August 2016.
